Special Request : Navrongo is in the Upper East Region of Ghana. West Africa. It is nicknamed; The Bethlehem of Northern Ghana, The Cape Coast of Northern Ghana, and Small Paris.It was founded around the year 1615 by a Prince from Zecco(Zekko) in the then Upper Volta now Burkina Faso call Butu( Bakabutu); he was a hunter,warrior and a traveller. He met three groups of people who were basically farmers,living in underground caves; the Telania at the east of the town,the Pindaana at the north-west of the town and the Biina at the south of the town. It was in 1904 that it started as a District with Captain P. Patridge as the 1st D.C. Christianity(Catholicism) in Northern Ghana started in Navrongo on the 23rd of April,1906 by three Canadian Missionaries led by Bishop Oscar Morin, accompanied by 21 freed slaves. Again,the first school for Northern Ghana started here in December,16th 1907 with 21 young men,also by these missionaries known by the local people as Faari noon ponno. The first CSM hit the town in 1951 which took away many lives. Navrongo since its formation has had 17 chiefs starting with Butu, Dimazooya,Zebilla,Nogsi,others are Birekem, Kwara(kwa), Addah I,Addah II,Dr. Augustine Atudiku Balinia Addah who has being Bedridden for over 15years today;continue to remember him in your prayers and all you do.
