Special Visit from Giovanni Bertani (Today, Oct. 9, 5 - 8 pm) Join us today, Thursday, October 9th as we welcome Giovanni Bertani. The prestigious Bertani firm is famous as a pioneer of Amarone. Their classic Bertani Amarone is a traditional Amarone, staying true the classic old-world style that ages gracefully for decades. Recently the Bertani family has started a new project, Tenuta Santa Maria alla Pieve. The Bertani family owns 124 acres of prime vineyards in the the Valpolicella, Amarone, and Soave zones of the Veneto. They are one of the largest land owners in the region. More importantly, this stake in the terrior of Veneto allows the family to rely solely on estate grown fruit. Add 300 years of wine making experience and you have the foundation of classic wines. We are honored to welcome Giovanni Bertani to the bin. Join us for this special night to taste and learn more about the Bertani family and the wines of Tenuta Santa Maria alla Pieve this Thursday from 5 to 8 pm. Lepia Soave DOC ($ 18.99) A Soave characterized by its freshness and depth. This is a thought provoking white wine with with an interesting and balanced structure. Soave is made with the Garganega grape and this is a true expression of the indigenous varietal. The wine is unique in that is contains 100% Garganega picked from three different harvests resulting in better elegance, complexity and balance. All stainless steel fermentation preserves the beauty of the impeccable fruit. Pràgal Shiraz Merlot ( $18.99) This wine is a pure and very nice expression of Merlot and Shiraz. All vinification is conducted in stainless steel to preserve the cleanest expressions of the varietals. A nice dose of 30% Shiraz lends structure and a touch of pleasant spice. The wine combines a rich body with nice acidity and a long finish. Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore DOC ($ 28.99) Deep, rich, handcrafted Ripasso: a true expression of the Veronese wine-making tradition. A blend of 75% Corvina, 15% Corvinone and 10% Rondinella. Fermenting the wine on the lees of classic Armarone lends quite a bit of the richness, texture, smoothness, complexity and pleasure of a top notch Amarone in this very affordable Ripasso. This spectacular Ripasso can be enjoyed now or put in the cellar for enjoyment over many years. Amarone Valpolicella DOC ( $ 57.99) Picking only the ripest fruit, allowing the grapes to dry for months and 300 years of wine making experience results in Classic Elegance. A blend of 75% Corvina, 15% Corvinone and 10% Rondinella indigenous grapes. After hand harvesting, the grapes are dried (appassimento) for four months before fermenting. The significant reduction of water in the grapes leads to a rich, elegant and complex wine perfect for the fall and winter foods ahead. Aging 3 years in oak leads to a polished experience. Soft tannins allow this wine to be enjoyed immediately but proper aging will result in a very special bottle in the future.
