Special event tonight with a special prize giveaway! Keynote speak Damon Rinard is ready to go. ********************************************** Senior Cycling Technologist Damon Rinard came to Cervélo in 2009 in two roles, as Senior Advanced R&D Engineer, and Race Engineer for the Cervélo TestTeam. His projects with the Cervélo engineering group have focused on aerodynamics, mechanical usability, measuring comfort (vibration transmission and human perception), geometry, and biomechanics. Damon was promoted to his current role in 2014. Drawing on his long-time passion for cycling, Damon earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from San Diego State University in 2000 with an emphasis in advanced materials. His Senior Project involved developing and manufacturing one of the first full-carbon clincher rims. Prior to university, Damon had been Technical Services rep for Cycle Composites Inc., the start-up company that developed the Kestrel brand. Later he worked as an Associate Engineer at GKN Aerospace, using non-contact Moiré interferometry to measure airfoil coordinates on titanium jet engine fan blades. After graduation, he became an engineer with Trek Bicycle Corporation, where he worked for seven years, ending up as an Advanced R&D Engineer in Trek’s Advanced Concept Group. Damon worked with Trek engineering teams on such projects as carbon fibre hubs (on which he holds a patent); defining the application—and quantifying the fatigue effects—of spoke stress relief; CFD analysis of helmet aerodynamic drag and heat transfer (ventilation); and saddle comfort research with the University of Wisconsin’s Biomedical Engineering department. He also helped pioneer the use of new engineering technologies at Trek, including CFD simulation of fluid flows. Damon’s body of work in the cycling world and education, combined with his love of cycling, give him a rare understanding of the needs of riders today. He has been instrumental in the development of Cervélo and enjoys discussing how to make the most of your time on the bike.
