Special needs education have become common since the past few years as the educators are striving to maintain a minimum difference between the mainstream education and the general education. This is because the special need children face social, developmental and intellectual challenges which up until recently wasn’t possible without the much needed resources. Here in Jeddah, the Mainstream education wasn’t given much attention. Hence, I decided to take the initiative and opened a department at Al Braaem Private School. The basic idea behind our special needs department is that we do not differentiate between the average and the special needs children. We make them follow the same curriculum so that they are able to identify with the social environment and be able to adapt to changes much more easily. Our special needs instructors are given formal training on how to interact with these children and what type of therapies to apply on each individual according to their needs. We designed a program in which the children are evaluated on a monthly basis according to what criteria they fall under and this leads to the work each instructor is given on how to deal with them. The number of children improving according to their evaluation by independent evaluators gives an incentive to the instructors who are rewarded on that basis. My dream was to bring the mainstream education over general education which Alhumdullilah I believe I have accomplished 100 % but until and unless I don’t see an improvement among my children, I won’t really call it my dream come true.
