Specially for the older generation of our Popa fans - Walking down the memory lane - You all shall remember the icons of both Rollers and GU sides - Clement Captain Muller Mothelesi, Steering Matsila, Sehularo The Horse Pelekekae, Ronan Lefty Ntseane, Mbakiso Hisso Sebina, Joseph Chikoti and Moses Killer Dipatane who represented different generations of Rollers sides; as well as the likes of Lele Sebele, Thomas Zero Johnson, Paymaster Dintwe, Wiseman Lesole, City Senne, Mandlenkosi Balanda and Chandy Moruti, who represented different generations of GU sides, and on match day, these would battle on the pitch with a classic display of football, leaving memories to be remembered forever. Also, the Charismatic club managers Noel ‘Ntate’ Liau or Baleseng Baleseng or the Botswana icon Sir Banks Panene for Rollers, while club managers Wellie ‘Pitla Pitla’ Seboni and David Mophuting for GU, would walk across the stadium before the match, as supporters cheered, feeling victory was certain for their club. In those years, the pre-match derby talk would start early in the week under a morula tree at the Main Mall, at offices and schools as fans would boast around about what their side would do to their rival. And finally on match day, Gaborone would come to a stand still and on kickoff, the noise emanating from the National stadium could be heard as far as the African Mall. Gone are those days, but the memories are still alive. But, keeping apart the results Win-Loss or a Draw for either clubs in history, Township Rollers and Gaborone United fixtures have always evoked great memories which have been remembered year after year.
