Specters from the East: Kapre The Philippines kindly say: the Kapre. The Kapre is an unnaturally tall creature, with wild hair and long legs. Despite this, he’s completely invisible to anyone. They spend their time hanging around trees, either resting in the shade or on the canopy. They often have a humongous cigar that never goes off; the burning of the cigar and its smell often gives away their position, but more often than not, their bellowing laughter and movements from tree to tree are dead giveaways. This creature has an habit of scaring travelers in the forest. Unlike other monsters who simply disorient you, the Kapre directly messes with your memory. You won’t remember the road back home, or what plant is poisonous… or who is that little child following you. He takes bits and pieces of your mind for as long as it entertains him, and that’s why people lose their minds in the forest. Their most extreme tactic is Slendy’s trademark blackout. A Kapre can silently slip into a room, kidnap a sleeping person, and leave them in the middle of the forest. When they wake up, they will be confused and scared… And clinging to the branches of the tallest tree. Hope they support your weight… But Kapres aren’t all monsters; they can fall in love! When one spots a woman he likes, he’ll stalk her. Forever. Any man that unknowingly tries to woo a Kapre’s woman will end in the forest. Or sick. Or dead. These guys are super jealous, and they won’t hesitate to spirit their lovers away in the middle of the night if they feel threatened. So if that shy girl says “no”, take it seriously… No one wants to be found skewered in a tree. The only way to avoid a Kapre is by wearing your shirt inside out. That makes him visible and will discourage him from attempting anything. Anytime you find a tall tree, ask for permission to pass. Odds are that the tree belongs to a Kapre waiting to have fun. And above all, be quiet. Noise upsets them. ( Source: theliterarybreaker.tumblr )
