Speech Speed Breakers The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “Whosoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him say good or remain silent.” [Bukhari] A preacher related the following story: “I came across a man in Mauritania once. When I spoke to him I found that he talked slowly, in fact, very slowly. So if I asked, ‘How are you, Brother?’ hed reply like this, ‘... I ... am ... well ... alhumdullillah ... shukran ...’ or whatever. “After a while I got tired of how slowly he would talk. “I spoke to another man who was nearby. I asked him, ‘Is something wrong with that brother that he speaks so slowly?’ “The man replied, ‘No, hes always been like that. He thinks about his every word before he utters it. He thinks about Allah and having to stand before Him and not be in the wrong.’” We should speak only if we have something good and beneficial to say. If we do not have anything good to say, we shouldn’t say anything at all.
