Speed Bumps, Man. Speed Bumps. It was right after he graduated - TopicsExpress

Speed Bumps, Man. Speed Bumps. It was right after he graduated from high school, in Springfield, Missouri. 1983. They were run off the road by a drunk driver. Neither he, nor his buddy, were wearing seat belts. His buddy was thrown from the car. And as his buddy lay dying in the ditch, and as he was trapped inside the car, some drunks from a nearby party came and stole his wallet, his boots, never called an ambulance. The buddy died there at the accident scene, and he was in a coma for months in a Springfield hospital. Later, he lived with his Mom who cared for him at home. It wasnt the way hed planned to live his life, having another care for him. So one day he decided to get up and try. And hes been trying ever since. Despite the challenges of massive head trauma, he has managed to work for 23 years doing maintenance for Springfield McDonalds. Had vacation time coming, so he and his wife decided to spend a few days in Eureka Springs. As he visited with Joe and me, he explained that every life has its ups and downs, you get sick or hurt, but those are just speed bumps, man, just speed bumps. They slow you down, but you dont have to let them keep you down. You just see them for what they are. Speed bumps. I asked him if I could write that down and share it with my friends. He said he wished I would.
