Spent a couple hours with Mom - always a special time. She loves college basketball, she played some high school ball back in the day, though when I arrived she was unfortunately watching Ga. Tech lose to Wake Forest. She had the lineup card for all the hoops and football today and tomorrow - probably will need new batteries for the remote. I was gifted with a couple more Dad pieces - a framed portrait of him in his soldier days, and Dads original - in longhand script - copy of his church social skit: Whos on First? He loved that stuff ... he was my wordman inspiration. The live-in caretaker, Susan, is a sweet lady, and her husband, Paul, whom I met today, is a pleasant fellow - a former chef now in IT. His culinary skills are excellent. He and Susan loaded me up with some of his signature minestrone, as well as beef stew and some absolutely killer meatballs and sauce (accompanied with fresh shredded cheese and a couple serious Italian hoagie buns). Ive been paring back on the meat consumption, but this stuff is too dear to pass. On my way out of the old neighborhood, I was persuaded to stop at the corner and enrich the coffer of some young entrepreneurs selling hot chocolate - 50¢ for a six-oz. cup, with a couple marshmallows. Well worth the stop.
