Spent a fascinating evening last night at BAFTA listening to director Ron Howard who came across as down-to-earth and thoroughly nice. Howard talked not only about his past work but we were also shown clips of his new movie RUSH about therivalry between seventies Formula I racing drivers James Hunt and Niki Lauda starring Chris Hemsworth. Most interesting tidbits of the evening: while shooting the zero gravity scenes for Apollo 13, the actors became pill poppers: drinking scopolamine ( for nausea) but this made them sleepy so they also had to pep up with dexedrine! And in his very first movie Howard was so broke, he cast his wife to save money. Since then he has become superstitious and will not make a movie without giving her a cameo role.
