Spent a good 40 minutes cleaning up an infected new laptop - TopicsExpress

Spent a good 40 minutes cleaning up an infected new laptop yesterday. The cause - user downloading and installing AVG Anti-Virus and un-knowingly opting in to the option to install UniBlue Registry Booster (and other bundled software like Conduit search among others) which are arguably classed as Malware. Firefox was then hijacked so searches for virus removal software were blocked. You have to ask yourself why an Anti-Virus company would bundle what is arguably classed as Malware with their product. Of course money talks, so although you may think you are getting a free anti-virus, you are putting money in their pockets by allowing them to force other software onto your computer which could potentially scam you into purchasing advanced versions or even charge you to uninstall them. Be very aware of what you are installing. Only download from trusted sites and ensure you choose the custom option and check what else is being installed at the same time, even if it is supposed Anti-Virus software!
