Spent an hour reading through monologues and even though I havent - TopicsExpress

Spent an hour reading through monologues and even though I havent really tried to memorize any of them besides one, and I havent even read through any of them for a few weeks, I noticed how much more comfortable I am with the flow and timing and expression in them. One of the weirdest aspects of monologues, in my opinion, is that it is usually a piece that is already built up to a certain point of energy by the rest of the dialogue or action that precedes it and then, when taken out of that setting, is really awkward jumping into at full speed (emotionally speaking). I do know that the Im fine! scene from the end of Steel Magnolias is the hardest one Ive been working on on that account, cause its a mother absolutely losing it over her daughters death. And to get into character is one thing, but to get into character at the exact moment that that character is heading off the deep end of her grief and sanity is weird. Theres no ramping up, there is no easing into it. There is just, here are the words, now fall apart! But I think its a sign of progress that Im feeling like less of a fool while reading it! lol I also repeatedly watched the MacBeth scene (since I did declare today to be MacBeth Monday) where Lady MacBeth first comes in and realizes what is required for their future . . . I can see why people think MacBeth is haunted and taboo in so many ways. Shes basically selling her soul, begging to be a murderess, all so the hubs can be king. Seriously, Shakespeare is a bit twisted, and Im not a huge fan, but dissecting the written word while the actress was performing it, brought out some nuances Id never caught before in the wording... some very depressing ones at that! I know, no one really cares about all this, but its something Im working on in hopes that I will not feel like a complete noob when I go to the voiceacting class in November. Please, Lord, let the class happen!!!!
