Spent the afternoon scouting the prairies of Buena Vista this afternoon with the one and only Myles Hurlburt . While it looked like a beautiful, sun-filled, spring day in Wisconsin, you soon were reminded that is only December as the 8 degree winds nipped at your flesh with frostbite. It was a good afternoon and we were able to witness an owl coughing up a pellet as a nice little bonus. For those wondering what a pellet is, here you go... After an owl eats the small rodents, birds, and bugs that are a part of its nightly diet, its stomach cannot digest the fur, bones, teeth, feathers, and insect shells from that food. These extra parts are formed into a tight PELLET inside the owl and are then are later SPIT UP by the owl. Now arent you glad you know? :D
