Spent the last hour remembering this story now recounted by 20/20...It frustrates me that her killer has still not been located. In the end...right here on national tv several of the jurors verbally pointed to the Gaston County Police Departments messy investigation as the reason they could not convict a killer. One juror specifically referred to the detectives here and I quote as a bunch of Barney Fifes??? Im personally thankful for the law enforcement here is Gaston County...but on the other hand...I watched more than a year ago as NBCs Dateline profiled this Countys (and Mt Holly City Police) handling of the Ira Yarmelenko murder... and yep, if youve got a brain and can count to 10 you know we blew that investigation too. Does it matter to me??? Honestly not so much. But for the technology and training available to fight crime with these days? Not only is it an absolute embarrassment...its the victims and families that deserve so much more!
