Spent the week working a female Harris passed on to me by a friend. Good size older female with a nice hunting history. She has had some handling issues but those are well underway to being resolved. She had a dislike for the glove and hood, lots of bating off the fist, not as social as one would like. Arrived hog fat so I began lowering her down towards hunting weight. As her weight drops, Im returning her to square one in training and manning as she acclimates to a new owner. Been giving her two to three hours of direct contact and manning each day with a positive reward based plan of action. As of this morning she is stepping up to the glove instead of fleeing to the end of her tether. Steps back without bating. Taking tidbits from my fingers and off the glove. Rides the glove a lot better now, perching upright instead of hanging upside down or squatting. Last night she began taking hops to the glove. Sits on the scale unhooded now without trashing it. When I got her last saturday, she would not accept the hood willingly. She has taken the hood without any issues while standing on the glove upright over the last two days. Lots of glove time, patience, walks around the property and attention are all she has needed so far. Another week and I should have her back up to speed and in the field earning her keep. This weeks adventures include reinforcing her bond to her lure, hops to leaps to flights to the glove, creance work, drop a baggie on her and then back to free flight. Continued manning and remedial training should see quite a few more quality years ahead for her. Renamed her Anthrax Annie. You can see how uncomfortable she was when I took the photo last saturday afternoon. Took almost an hour to get her to squat long enough on the glove to snap a quick photo. Now she rides the glove normally. Best part about her is shes a silent bird and only croaks when shes upset at other animals she doesnt know. Otherwise as silent as they come.
