Spent this evening with our kids. Celebrated the birthdays of 3 of them. We had about nearly 20 of them today. Read for a few of them. Some sat down with the workbooks. A number were running around. Some chattering away. But they were there, thats the important thing. Each week we learn a little more. Its like pieces of a puzzle as we try to work out what is happening at home. I am truly grateful to my volunteers who have been working on this. We work with the schools as well and I was really touched when I heard that one of the school counsellors actually go to wait by the house of one of our kids in the morning to make sure she goes to school. I hear that the counsellor gets verbally abused by the father...someone whom I know and have been helping. Sigh. We link up with the social services as well and hopefully between us all, we can take preventive measures where required. But the kids are opening up and I hope that in our own small way, we can help them, guide them when needed. It can really seem overwhelming and I dont know how sustainable we can make this out to be.
