Spent this past day wandering around the National Mall in DC. Took a guided tour of the Capital Building generously hosted and expertly executed by a staff member from Alan Lowenthals seat as a member of the House of Representatives. Walked around the House staff office and noticed that most members have a representation of flags outside their doors. Every member has their State flag, the US flag and a flag that represents their agenda. Almost every single agenda flag in the building was a POW / MIA flag. Which is totally appropriate given the nature of representative politics. Our country mourns and misses its children that chose country over self destiny. Nothing supersedes legitimate heroism. But that wasnt the lesson I learned today touring the Capital. I saw the Declaration of Independence. Written, by hand. A small group of decision makers that created uya country. I read the actual Constitution our nation was founded upon. I read the Bill of Rights that everyone argues over. I particularly noted the misinterpretation that gun enthusiasts exploit to enjoy misanthropic nirvana. But tonight I saw what this country is also capable of.
