Spicola Hardware, Continental Can Company, Joes (Dinapoli?) barber Shop on Bay to Bay Blvd. The Texaco station where the Crosstown exit now exists at Bay to Bay, the Dry Cleaners across the street from same, HBPs Mr. Fergusons (?) [I always thought he was a bit nuts] Biology class, HBP HS dances on the outdoor patio, the houses occupied by our Black brothers & sisters just across the RR track at the dead end of Obispo St., Laying out under the trees in front of HBP HS after lunch period, Home Ec classes, Typing classes, The massive Army-Navy War Surplus tent on the SW corner of S. Dale Mabry Hwy & Henderson Blvd. (now a service station). BTW: There are no more service stations ...you pump you own gas, check your oil and clean the windshield now Bucko!, hanging small lizards on your earlobes, Piercing your ear after applying ice cubes (a potato backing??) Chumming for Sheep head off the Ballast Point Pier pilings, Building a fire at night right on Clearwater beach & no one cared, getting stuck on a bad dirt road, Gunning you motor at stoplights as a challenge...the other guy takes off and you dont...gotcha!, Doing the same when cruising the Nade (most of the time, you did that as the last thing before going home), throwing eggs at the walkers on Bayshore and at the fisherman on Gandy Bridge, Grill works at the bottom panel of your screen door. Window air conditioners, Lights behind your car grill & your wheel wells, Attic fans, the first wall to wall carpet covering up the same wood floors that are in demand today, Fireman hanging on the OUTSIDE of the fire truck, Power Bar candy was a quarter (?), Home made milk shake: (whole milk, vanilla extract, sugar and an egg), Milk toast with cinnamon, Liver & Onions, (Belch now!) Putting pennys on the RR track so the train would flatten them, Steam Locomotives whistles, The small siren you could mount on your bike, friends riding on your handlebar, A basket on your bike was ONLY for the girls, Red Riders, White Buck dust, Flying kites....so very rich in memories....be at peace dear reader...we are all still above ground. :-) Lanny Fuettere
