Spiritual Artist Development Series Tip #30: Consecration isn’t something that’s talked about much in music ministry. What is it, you ask? Consecration is defined by Wikipedia as “the solemn dedication to a special purpose or service, usually religious. The word ‘consecration’ literally means ‘to associate with the sacred’”. When you sing or play at church, do you realize you are “associating with the sacred?” Do you know that you have been gifted to be a conduit for the Spirit of God, a channel for the Lord to minister to His people? True music ministry isn’t about instruments and voices; they are just tools to help the body of Christ enter into His presence. Real ministry is pointed toward Christ and is reflected in the heart and the lifestyle of the messenger. How often do you set aside time to escape the cares of this world and spend time with God? Have you taken time to seek the Lord about your ministry and His goals for it? What’s your life look like outside the four walls of the church? Do you flee from things that would tarnish your ministry’s reputation? Do you inventory your motives making sure they are always pure? Have you committed yourself to being an empty vessel to be filled by the Holy Spirit? Step away from the usual routine of music ministry and let God do a special consecration within you. He wants to fill you to overflowing.
