Spiritual Sharings from Sri Ganesan - 25th January Yesterday, the series of talks (7 days) on Aksharamanamaalai at the Ashram, by Nochur RAMANA [ Venkataraman ] concluded. It was truly a fitting finale to the greatest Bhakti Grantha (Devotional Poem) blessed on us by the Great Master : BHAGAVAN RAMANA ! Though, on all these seven days, he covered only 8 verses out of the 108 Verses of this exquisite devotional outpouring, he delivered the Direct Teaching of Sri Bhagavan, in the most powerful way ! Every one in the audience, was spellbound and listened in silence with spiritual ecstasy ! Verse 7 : (a) Sit firmly in my mind lest it eludes You, Oh Arunachala ! (b) Change not Your nature and flee, but hold fast in my mind, Oh Arunachala ! (c) Be watchful in my mind, lest it change even You (into me) and rush away, Oh Arunachala ! Verse 8 : (a) Display Your Beauty, for the fickle mind to see You forever and to rest (in peace), Oh Arunachala ! (b) The strumpet mind will cease to walk the streets if only she find You. Disclose Your Beauty then and hold her bound, Oh Arunachala ! (c) The mind by her unsteadiness prevents my seeking You and finding peace; (hold her and) grant me the Vision of Your Beauty, Oh Arunachala ! [ Collected Works of Ramana Maharshi ] May Sri Bhagavan shower His Blessings on us all ! With warm Regards, Yours Ever in His Seervice, Ganesan. ________________________________________________________________ Sri Bhagavan : The Guru is both external and internal. From the outside, he pushes the mind inwards, and from the inside he pulls the mind towards the SELF and helps it keep quiet. That is the Grace. There is no difference between God, Guru and SELF. A Gurus help is necessary and useful to start you on the inquiry, but you yourself must pursue it. _________________________________________________________________ 23rd October, 1936 273. Dr.Hafiz Syed asked : I have been reading the The Five Hymns to Sri Arunachala . I find that the hymns are addressed to Arunachala by you. You are an Advaitin . How do you then address God as a separate Being ? Sri Bhagavan : The devotee, God and the Hymn are all the SELF. D.: But, you are addressing God. You are specifying this Arunachala Hill as God. Sri Bhagavan : You can identify the SELF with the body. Should not the devotee identify the SELF with Arunachala ? D.: If Arunachala be the SELF, why should it be specially picked out among so many other hills ? God is everywhere. Why do you specify Him as Arunachala ? Sri Bhagavan : What has attracted you from Allahabad to this place ? What has attracted all these people around ? D.: Sri Bhagavan. Sri Bhagavan : How was I attracted here ? By Arunachala. The Power cannot be denied. Again, Arunachala is within and not without. The SELF is Arunachala. **************************************************** 30th June, 1936 219. Ramakrishna Swami - along-resident disciple, asked Sri Bhagavan the meaning of Twaiyarunachala Sarvam , a stanza in The Five Hymns to Sri Arunachala . Sri Bhagavan explained it in detail, saying that the Universe is like a painting on a screen -- the screen being the Red Hill : Arunachala. That which rises and sinks is made up of what it rises from. The finality of the Universe is the God Arunachala. Meditating on Him or on the seer - the SELF - there is a mental vibration I to which all are reduced. Tracing the source of I, the primal I-I alone remains over, and it is inexpressible. The seat of Realisation is within and the seeker cannot find it as an object outside him. That seat is Bliss and is the core of all beings. Hence, it is called the Heart. The only useful purpose of the present birth is to turn within and realise it. There is nothing else to do. ---from Talks with Sri Ramana Maharshi , pp. 228, 182.
