Splendid weekend weather for bicycling! Club ride yesterday in the New Paltz area, passing by the colorful roadside wildflowers of high summer: fields of deep purple loosestrife, sunny goldenrod, Queen Annes lace, wild bee balm; apple trees heavily pregnant with fruit sizing up nicely -- all against the backdrop of the craggy Shawangunks. We noticed a log jutting into a small pond with several turtles sunning themselves, just off the shoulder of the road. Todays charity bike ride -- the Tour de Goshen -- traveled out in the black dirt farm region of Chester. I told my riding companion that it really looked like Gods country. We later followed a rail trail into the Village of Goshen, pedaling past the large churches and stately homes on Main Street before going back out to the county park where we started.
