Split the Pot tomorrow night to honor Matt Tomorrow night, we will sponsor a Split The Pot fund raiser to honor the son of freshman football coach John Kocher. Proceeds will support the Great Lakes Surf Rescue Project. You may remember that Matt Kocher died tragically in a drowning accident in Lake Michigan. To honor Matt, his parents have worked tirelessly to educate parents and children about water safety. We will select the winning ticket at the end of the third quarter. The entire South Suburban Conference has worked on this fund raiser, and we truly appreciate all the support for the Kocher family. Heres a note from coach John (and in the video, too.) “Helping Matt Help Others” Thank you for thinking of my son Matt in the Annual SSC Split the Pot Collection. The thoughtfulness is so comforting to my wife, Kathy, & I. It has truly been the kindness & prayers of others that have gotten us through the past fifteen months. Kathy & I have partnered with The Great Lakes Surf Rescue Project to raise awareness about water safety through education. Please let me know if we can be of any assistance in arranging a water safety presentation at your school. The GLSRP is a non-profit organization that is passionate about informing students and parents about water safety. They did a presentation last May at Andrew High School which was well received by students and staff. Thanks again. God bless all of you. DID YOU KNOW THAT: • Drowning kills more school-aged children each year than fires, tornadoes, school shooters • Schools have fire drills, tornado drills, active shooter drills, and some even have earthquake drills, but very few have any water safety education? • Drowning is a nationwide and worldwide epidemic? • There’s little to no water safety education in schools? THE BIG PICTURE OF DROWNING According to the latest Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) statistics, drowning is the: • Leading cause of accidental injury death for children 1-4 • 2nd leading cause for children 1-14 • 5th leading cause for the entire nation • 3rd leading cause worldwide The Great Lakes Surf Rescue Project (GLSRP) wants to change that. The GLSRP is leading the call for a Water Safety School Curriculum for elementary, junior high, high school students, the parents of each age group, and instructors of the curriculum to directly address the drowning epidemic. Drowning is preventable through education. You can help us save more lives by supporting this fundraiser for a Water Safety School Curriculum.
