Spoiler Alert # 2: The Beer Best of Show This year we had 251 beer entries to judge. Competition Coordinator Jill Marilley and Cellar Master Jim Trimble assembled the 26 top finishers from the first round for a Best of Show panel to evaluate. These were the top entries from each BJCP category plus several top beers advanced at the request of table judges. Grand Master Judge Steve Antoch moderated a BOS panel of five experienced BJCP judges as they worked through a varied and interesting selection of great beers. Their work was not easy. In the end, Best of Show honors went to Jeremy Allison of Oak Harbor for his superbly crafted Old Dagon, an Old Ale. Runners up, in descending order, were Dick Walker of Everett with a Red Jalapeno Ale, Jonathan Perman of Renton with a Maibock, James Golovich of West Richland with Leela’s Lager, Jeremy Allison with his Czar Nicholas Russian Imperial Stout, and Brian Searfass of Everett with a Dubbel Spooked Pumpkin Ale. Allison, Walker, Perman, Golovich, and Searfass combined for 13 of the 26 BOS round beers – gentlemen, congratulations on making excellent beer. Class winners this year were Brian Searfass of Everett with the best lager for his Bungle in the Dunkle, Ken Tompkins of Monroe for the best hybrid with his American Rye, Jeremy Allison of Oak Harbor with the best Ale for his Czar Nicholas Russian Imperial Stout, Mike Floyd of Everett for Belgian and Strong beers with his Belgian Strong Blond, and Brian Searfass, yet again with the best Specialty Beer for his Dubble Spooked Pumpkin Ale.
