Spoiler free dark souls 2 review (for people who have not played it) Honestly, it had a lot to live up to, and I think overall it was well executed. From the start I noticed a huge chants in lighting, some of the best I have seen, even when compared to triple A games. The world felt new, polished, and unique, making me want to continue playing it. The Hub spin arrival felt warm, safe, yet at the same time sad, the music, time if day and over all atmosphere felt depressing, like this was in fact a land in despair, and I loved it, warm yet a new emotional dark at the same time. My first few hours so didnt die once, even clear the first area and boss without the this is dark souls achievement popping up; this worried me that the game was to easy, but rest assures, later areas brought many horrifying deaths that I soon learned and worked past, giving me that good old Souls series feel of accomplishment; needless to say, it wasnt before long that the game was the one beating my ass, and ohh how I enjoyed like a hooker with a fetish. Bosses: I felt some of the bosses lacked both difficulty, and even fewer creativity. Some seemed like little effort was put in, but there were so many that I can over look this, while other bosses had quite a large learning curve, while a few seemed like Dark Souls 1 copys (not in design, but in movement, yet I also feel that their unique visual designs could make up for that as majority of the bosses seemed very creative and fit well in the Souls universe. As for Level design, pure beautiful in the dark aspect we all love, From Software did a fantastic job of combining beauty and gloominess to bring a wide array of fantastical designed locations (never got my snow area, but maybe next time) except one area I actually dislike for its lack of design, but thats one out of nearly 30. Game Mechanics feel a bit more responsive this time, took about an hour to fully adjust but not its just natural, I did find that the lag backstab is still an issue, but other then that, the movement feels more natural and less exaggerated, insuring you have stamina left after attacking is far more important as you can get severely punished for going all in to soon. Armor and weapon designs appealed to me more this time around, a lot of boss and NPCs to roll play as now, and just adds to this ever growing world. Summoning is personally a down fall for me, my friend and I are the same level are unable to summon one another do to our difference in Soul memory, as mine is 2.4 mil, hers around 1.3 mil, it takes out the enjoys blitz of playing With friends unless you both have a dedicated co-op character for each other. Finally Story, this time around it felt larger, deeper, and just an overall fantastic experience, for the first time in a whole I felt like I bought a $60 game ($120 technically) but the game itself. I honestly hope a DLC or 3 are added, the game feels complete, yet leaves me wanting more, yet not needing it to enjoy it. I would gladly give From software more of my money. If you stuck around long enough to read it all, thank you. Hope this helps anyone debating picking up a copy. This is MY personal opinions and does in no way represent anyone else in the community. Have a great night everyone.
