Spoilers (cause I hate clickbait descriptions) - the guy makes a dinner table out of reclaimed lumber. He uses old techniques and tools - no power tools. Also no nails or screws. Question: When crafting a home-made gift for a loved one, which is the better gift? To spend 10-15 ten-hour days using old-fashioned techniques to construct a wooden table? Or to build the exact same table in only 2 days by adding a belt sander and a router? In both cases, the table is hand-crafted and lovingly designed and constructed. The end result is exactly the same. The only material difference is how long you spend making it. And lets assume the recipient of the gift will never know how long it took. I have the inclination that the 10 day table is somehow better because of the additional sacrifice of time. But I find myself uncomfortable with that idea because of the apparent waste of time involved when a more efficient process exists. I guess what Im really trying to get at is - does the additional expense of time (and maybe also mental and emotional and physical energy) imbue the finished gift with some ethereal quality that the same gift made by the same person motivated by the same love but made in a fraction of the time would not have?
