Spoke to a friend last night and she said this. Back then our - TopicsExpress

Spoke to a friend last night and she said this. Back then our beliefs and religion were in our hearts. Nowadays its external - we judge each other by what we wear, what we do, how pious we look and how much we fit in to the expectations of other followers Which made me think. When did we start judging others more instead of ourselves? When did we start insisting others behave, look the way and do the things we do? Did it begin when we ourselves were told to do so, and we agreed, and now we insist others do the same as we have done so we dont feel left out or silly for following what we were told? That we cant accept others now or we allow others to be shamed for not following, because we do and they should/must too? Like we dont want others to eat when we dont? Or we dont want to see ads of Oktoberfest when we do not drink? Or we dont want to see others dress as they do when we cover ourselves? Or we dont want others to be gay because we are straight? We, we, we? Regardless of whether they have the basic human right to do and believe as they choose, like all of us do? We take offense that people choose to live differently from us, to believe differently from us, and to experience different from us. We dont want to admit to the reasons as to why we take offense, that the reasons are within us personally and not them, and we use insulting the religion as an excuse to justify it. We refuse to look inside ourselves, and we blame others and external factors instead and want to eliminate them. This same mindset, taken to the extreme, is what IS is doing. The difference between I have decided that you insult me and my beliefs and I want you to stop and I have decided that you insult me and my beliefs and I will kill you is a long but straight road. Instead of changing ourselves and accepting others peacefully, we want others around us to change for us. Or else. Insulting my religion and beliefs can be a very powerful and convenient reason/excuse to cloud the real issues and reasons. We are usually not at peace with others when we are not at peace with ourselves. I think we have to learn to be more at peace. Or at least let the future generations be, and not screw them up by insisting that they must do what we want them to do, by law and through punishment because we can, even after were gone, even when its their life, and not ours.
