Sponsorships Needed. Recently, Alaqua Animal Refuge was asked to take in 15 puppies and two mother dogs when a Good Samaritan confronted an owner in Mississippi about the well being of his animals. She couldn’t pass by another day and see the skinny dogs fending for themselves. The Good Samaritan was able to convince the property owner to give up the animals, but now she had to find them a home. A few more wonderful people got involved, and all 17 animals arrived in Florida! It took a village to get them here, but now the mothers and their puppies are safe and sound, and living the life at Alaqua. We have started their vaccinations, and they will all be spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on their shots before they find their forever homes. The cost to get these dogs healthy and ready for adoption will reach more than $3,000. And if the mothers have heartworm disease, the cost will be even more.
