Spooky. Super, Mega spooky. To collect my picture framing, I had to walk past Dasa Books, Bangkoks amazing secondhand English language bookshop. As I walked along, I had this vague thought of I should pick up last of the Salander Trilogy, having had to leave my copy in UK. Having the thought and bothering to act and go in are two different things in todays heat. As I went to walk buy, what was the first thing my eye alighted on, amongst the super-extra bargain books outside the shop - yes, you guessed it!! so Im now the proud owner for 29 Baht; and the shop is in the most expensive part of Bangkok. I moved my goods in to my flat today, albeit not myself. Boy, that area is proving to be the opposite - cheap beyond belief. Ive found a market type street two streets away. Cooked food is ridiculously cheap; and, as for rice, I wont be buying a rice cooker - a few steps and Im with the guy who sells a ton for 5 Baht. I also found a cheap key cutter - an extra front door key cost 30 Baht. In the middle of the street is a Tesco Express - it undercuts prices in its big brothers by a huge margin; and theyre cheap. I guess it has to! Some guys will make me up a computer desk and deliver for just under £20 The flat looks lovely. All promises kept by the owner on new stuff, and nicely cleaned. A few quid spent in IKEA gives it a nice contemporary feel (helped by a glass block feature wall). Anyway, to give you an idea, my book and new front door key total up to £1.18.
