Sport - Rugby - Age Limit of 25 years of age for players abolished Glamorgan Gazette - Friday June 18, 1909 Bridgend and District Rugby League Age Limit Abolished The second annual general meeting was held at the York Hotel, Bridgend on Saturday under the presidency of Mr T..D. Shofield supported by Mr T.J. Job. There was a large attendance of representatives of affiliated clubs. The report of last season which unanimously adopted, showed the League to be in a sound financial position due to the success attained by the Inter-League team in its matches with Newport and Swansea. The following officers were elected for the coming season: President, Mr T.D. Shofield; vice-president, Mr. T.J.Job; hon.secretary, Mr Tom Bennett, Tondu; hon.tresurer, Mr Tom Matthews, Bridgend. A lengthy discussion took place over the age limit rule. Mr Cranston (Nantymoel) moved and Mr Evans (Llanharran) seconded that the age limit be abolished. An amendment was put forward by Mr J.A. Evans (Bridgend), seconded by Mr Abel (Nantymoel Excelsiors) that the age limit be the same as last season, viz. 25 years. The amendment was lost and the motion carried. An Executive Committee was appointed to deal with disputes and objections and to act as a Match Committee. The following were elected: Messrs. J.H. Peregrine, Nantymoel; Mr Tom Davies, Llangynwyd; and Mr Tom Shell, Cefn Cribbwr together with the officials of the League. Mr T.J. Job, Nantymoel, moved that the secretary convey to the relatives of the late Mr R.C. Griffiths a vote of condolence in their bereavement. Mr Watkins, Cefn Cribbwr having seconded the motion was carried in silence all present standing. All clubs desirous of joining the League for the coming season are invited to make an early application to the hon.secretary. The League Committee also invite applications from previous persons desirous of becoming referees. Applications must be prepared to go through an examination of W.F.U. rules.
