Sport: Ice Hockey Market: Colorado Avalanche @ Pittsburgh Penguins Pick: Total OVER 5 ½ goals Odds: $1.91 Agency: Centrebet Wager: 3 Units Analysis: Pittsburgh seeks a fifth straight victory while looking to remain perfect at home today as it faces a Colorado team that has yet to lose on the road. It wont surprise anyone that the Penguins sit atop the Eastern Conference, but the Av’s hot start to the season has surprised a few. The Avalanche have done just that, getting off to a 7-1-0 start after finishing at the bottom of the Western Conference in the 2013 season. Theyve won each of their four road games after beating Buffalo 4-2 on Saturday, bouncing back from Thursdays 4-2 loss to Detroit. Penguins goalie Marc Fleury, who has won his last five starts with a 1.98 GAA against the Avalanche, made 35 saves as Pittsburgh beat Colorado 5-1 in the most recent meeting March 3, 2012, for its fourth straight win in the series. Fleury has also won all seven starts and owns a 5-1-0 record and 2.53 goals-against average versus the Avalanche. Interestingly, the Penguins have won 11 consecutive shootouts at home. The goal total average between these two teams over the past 11 games is 6.3 goals per game and the total has been set at 6 goals in the past 2 contests. With the Penguins hot start to the season on offence and also at home, we’re taking the OVER 5 ½ goals here for 3 units. Sport: Ice Hockey Market: Colorado Avalanche @ Pittsburgh Penguins Pick: Penguins Win & Penguins -1 ½ goals Odds: $1.65 & $2.80 Agency: Centrebet Wager: 3 Units Analysis: As per our analysis above, the Avs are off to a hot start on the season and have surprised many. They haven’t faced the red hot Penguins at home yet and the Penguins certainly wont be underestimating the Avs here. We’re also taking the Penguins at the puck line for a small play as we believe the Penguins will be ready to go in this one and could put on a show. Dating back to last season the Avalanche are 9-23 in their last 32 road games. The Penguins are 4-0 in their last four games against Central division teams, and 17-4 in their last 21 games against a team winning 60% or more of their games. In the last seven head-to-head meetings between these teams the home team owns a 5-2 record. Take the Penguins to win for 3 units and also -1 ½ goals for 1 unit. Sport: Ice Hockey Market: San Jose Sharks @ Detroit Red Wings Pick: Red Wings Win Odds: $2.20 Agency: Betfair Wager: 1 Unit Analysis: This is a very interesting game between these two teams. Both teams played on Saturday leaving Detroit with a lot to think about after the unexpected loss against Phoenix, while San Jose celebrated another victory against Calgary on their home ice the same evening. According to Red Wings’ coach Babcock, who was not really happy, whose team lead by two goals but did not work hard enough and was outplayed and punished by Phoenix, losing 5:2 at final horn. On top of that they had to swallow humiliation in the form of an empty-netter scored by Coyotes’ goalie Mike Smith in the last second of the game. The only positive aspect for Detroit was that their goalie Jimmy Howard was back in the net, which means they now have two top quality goalies ready to play. Unfortunately for Detroit, their main offensive strength still lays in duo Zetterberg and Datsyuk. Moreover, Defenseman Kronwall is still out with concussion, as are Eaves (knee/ankle) and Helm (back). Their Monday game rival, the Sharks, destroyed Calgary with 6 goals, though 3 goals were scored from power plays and 1 to the empty net. But every goal counts and it does not matter how or by whom it is scored. Fortunately for San Jose the goal scoring workload is shared amongst enough good players despite Boyle (neck surgery), Burish (back surgery), Havlat (groin surgery) and Torres (ACL surgery) being out of the lineup due to long-term injuries. Despite the Sharks white hot start to the season, we look for the Red Wings to bounce back here at good odds and take a close one at home. Take the Red Wings to win this one for a small play of 1 unit. Sport: Ice Hockey (4* NHL Play of the Day) Market: Calgary Flames @ Los Angeles Kings Pick: Kings Win Odds: $1.50 Agency: Betfair Wager: 4 Units Analysis: The Calgary Flames currently stand at 3-2-2 overall after cooling down from a hot start. The Calgary Flames have surprised many people this season including myself. The Flames have shown some fight against the top teams in the league this year. Although, the Calgary Flames are coming off back to back losses including a tough 6-3 road loss Saturday to the San Jose Sharks. Calgary dropped their second straight after going 4-0-1 to start the season. Sean Monahan, Backlund, and Jiri Hudler each lit the lamp for the Flames on Saturday and goalie Karri Ramo made 30 saves in his first start of the year. He will likely get the nod tonight at 0-1-1 with a high 4.37 GAA. The Los Angeles Kings enter this meeting at 6-3-0 on the season as they have won back to back games and six of their first nine to keep them in the mix with the other dominant Western Conference clubs. Now the Los Angeles Kings look for their third straight on Monday night when they host the Calgary Flames. The Kings are coming off a 5-2 win Saturday night over the Dallas Stars. Kyle Clifford led the charge with a third period goal and Matt Greene sealed the deal with an empty net goal with under thirty seconds remaining. Anze Kopitar posted three assists after going 3-1-0 on a four game trip. Hosting the Flames in this spot is a great chance for the Kings to continue their success. The Kings are 5-2-0 in their last 7 against the Flames. LA Goalie Jonathan Quick owns a low 1.52 GAA against Calgary over his career. Take the Kings to win this one for a strong 4 units in our NHL Play of the Day. #EasyMoney
