Sport: Mini Games an important stop for Pacific weightlifters Posted at 22:48 on 06 August, 2013 UTC The Director of the Oceania Weightlifting Institute, Paul Coffa, says next month’s Pacific Mini Games are an important stepping stone on the road to the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. All of the Pacific’s top lifting talent is expected to be in Wallis and Futuna, including Nauru’s Yukio Peter and Samoa’s Faavae Faauliuli. The General Secretary of the Oceania Weightlifting Federation and Director of the Oceania Weightlifting Institute, Paul Coffa, says the Mini Games are the last chance for lifters to push for places at the World Championships in Poland later this year and also a valuable test en route to Glasgow. “They will use these as a stepping stone towards the Commonwealth Games so it does become a major event for our sport. The standard is so high up on the Islands - quite a lot of them have chances of winning gold medals at the Commonwealth Games. So they’re using this tournament as a stepping stone - we take the best across, simply because the standard of the tournament is so high and the preparation for the Commonwealth Games.” The Director of the Oceania Weightlifting Institute, Paul Coffa.
