Sports Debate Universe, Manhattan Colleges basketball program - TopicsExpress

Sports Debate Universe, Manhattan Colleges basketball program finds itself in quite a pickle. Their basketball team nearly pulled off a major upset in the NCAA tournament this year against defending champion Louisville. There should be nothing but enthusiasm going into next season. If only life could be that simple. Steve Masiello, head coach of Manhattan, saw this as an opportunity to move to greener pastures, and was deep in talks with the University of South Florida. Just as he was about to take the job, they checked his resume and realized he may have stretched the truth a bit. Masiello attended the University of Kentucky. That part is not in dispute, what is is whether he graduated from the school or not, as he is listed on his resume as a Kentucky grad. USF found him not a graduate of the school and thus did not hire him. This is only now coming to light for Manhattan, as the prodigal coach attempts to return to campus with his tail between his legs trying to keep his job. The issue is dividing students at the school. Some say this shows a serious lack of ethics and honesty and calls into question their trust in the coach. Others say it is a trivial offense and would be a shame to lose a coach who has proven he can do the job, over a minor resume tweak. Despite the fact that he had one foot out the door AND lied on his resume to try to get out, Masiello has not resigned, and his school has not fired him. Manhattan so far is too timid to cut him loose, so they have placed him on leave while he reviews his degree status. Sports Debate Universe, how is that not a cop-out on the part of the school? Would you give a head coach a second chance after he tried to ditch you and was proven dishonest even in doing that? And what action would you take if you were the AD at Manhattan?
