Sports : Young All Whites win again at Oceanias but New Caledonia earn respect. New Zealand maintained their perfect record at the Oceania under-17 championships today but were made to work hard, eventually seeing off a spirited New Caledonia 5-4 at the JS Blatter Complex in Apia, Samoa. Logan Rogerson bagged a hat-trick for Jose Figueiras side while Connor Probert and Luke Johnson were also on target as the Kiwis came out on top of the battle of first and second in Group A. Having scored 18 goals and conceded just once in their three games before yesterday, the Young All Whites fell behind for the first time at the tournament when Joseph Hnagone put New Caledonia ahead in the 11th minute. But the New Zealanders replied a minute later through Rogerson as New Caledonia failed to clear the danger. By the 20th minute New Zealand were 3-1 ahead thanks to Rogersons second – on the end of a short corner – and Proberts finish from a Rogerson cross. Henri Boucheron pulled one back for New Caledonia in first half stoppage time as his shot on goal was fumbled by New Zealand goalkeeper Michael Woud before it crossed the line. Five minutes after the restart New Caledonia were level after Joris Kenon delivered to Boucheron who put the ball in the top-left hand corner for 3-3. Seven minutes later New Zealand were ahead again as Johnson headed in Proberts excellent corner and the Kiwis were 5-3 up on the hour as Rogerson completed his hat-trick with a back post tap-in. But any thoughts of cruising to victory were dispelled when Kenon brought New Caledonia back to within a goal at 5-4 via the penalty spot with 12 minutes remaining.
