Sports builds character- or, Does it really? While growing up, all kids are sanctimoniously advised- play sports- they bring the best out of you, and will make you develop, sportsman spirit. Having seen some sportsmen, in practically all disciplines, resorting to cheating, abusing and indulging in violence, its time to revisit the age old theory, in light of the recent Uruguays match against Italy where Luis Suarez, bit into Chiellinis shoulder, without any provocation. He will now miss the rest of the World Cup and the start of the English Premier League season. Soccer is a game of passion and the regular incidents on-field show that many of these footballers have no respect either for the game or for their opponents. Suarez then moved to the English club Liverpool and, in 2013, was caught on video biting Chelseas Branislav Ivanovic. He was suspended for 10 games. Boorish behavior in cricket is a daily affair-, Australians lead the show with constant sledging, and Pakistanis, Indians, West Indians etc are often seen taking the bait, and retaliating. Sports is now hugely commercial, and winning is all that matters- which makes one wonder- where has sportsman spirit disappeared? Or, is it that we are now left with only , Biter Cocks?
