Spot on analysis from Paul Mason, as usual. Hes right to point out that Scotlands Radical Independence Campaign are the closest thing we have to Podemos and Syriza in the UK. Like many who pushed for a Yes vote in the referendum, they have continued to build momentum despite being defeated by the No campaign. Their December conference attracted an impressive 3,000 activists radicalindependence.org/2014/12/09/herald-article-in-angharad-tomos-weekly-column/ We need some of this grassroots activism in England too - people who are willing to think beyond the black and white certainties of revolutionary politics. Radicalism should be judged not on what it destroys, but on what it delivers. People need help now - they cant wait until capitalism has been abolished before they get proper wages and decent housing. Podemos and Syriza recognise this, which is why they are drawing fire from both left and right. In the current economic climate, the idea of decent wages, proper housing, full health care and no more wars is radical enough for most people. These are the demands on which the Radical Independence Campaign is building momentum. As we move into 2015, I find that encouraging.
