Spot on from sister Dalia Mogahed (@DMogahed): Dear beloved Muslim Americans: This. is. Your. Country. If *your* president makes statements that offend you at say a White House Iftar spend 10% of the time and energy calling to account said president as you do the Muslims who attended and didnt walk out. Despite the enormous flurry of debate and indignation expressed on Facebook, the White House did not get *a single* call from our community complaining! Other communities devote their energy into calling and writing the government when it isnt sufficiently supportive of their position, exercising their duty to hold their democratic government accountable. We channel 100% of that energy into criticizing each other, and let the government off the hook. The greatest danger of Islamophobia is internalizing it and behaving like the second class citizens those who hate us want us to be.
