Spotlight: 8 Questions with Filmmaker Kelly Griffin Director Kelly Griffin’s film NOW YOU SEE ME is a 48HFP Selection at the Little Rock Horror Picture Show (March 20-23) Now You See Me - Grundle Productions 48 Hour Film 2013 was nominated for 3 awards at the 2013 Little Rock 48 Hour Film Project; Best Actor (Jay Morgan), Best Director (Kelly Griffin), and Best Use of Dialogue. They took home wins for Best Actor and Best Use of Dialogue. Logline: “A mentally handicapped plumber is forced to tell the girl of his dreams exactly how he feels.” 1) Who are you and what do you do? My name is Kelly Griffin and I produce, shoot and edit 2 syndicated television shows and online content about sustainable living, design, gardening, and cooking. 2) What made you decide to be a filmmaker? Ive always been a filmaphobe, but I didnt get the bug to actually make one until I watched a Robert Rodriguez film with the directors commentary on. He talked me into it. 3) What, for you, makes a great story in cinema? Im a fan of existential, dialog heavy, smart films ala Kevin Smith and Quentin Tarantino. I like it when characters have dialog that real people are afraid to have out loud and make people uncomfortable. I like making people experience conversations that they would never have in real life. 4) What filmmakers have influenced your career? Kevin Smith, Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez, Aronofsky, Lynch, Zemeckis, Edgar Wright. I am an easy target. I can find something to like in most films that I watch, so I could literally go on for days. 5) What about the Horror genre is appealing to you? Something about horror films cause people to lose themselves in the film. They become silently focused on every picture and sound. They become one with the movie. Horror seems to have the most immersive qualities. Also, to be honest, scaring or shocking an audience is easier than comedy. Horror isnt as subjective. 6) What has been your coolest experience so far in making films? My 48 Hour team every year is a weekend bunking party of fun. We literally party (and make a film) for 48 hours. 7) Who is your favorite Horror filmmaker currently working and why? My favorite horror film of all time is Jaws. I saw it when I was 9. It changed my life. I stopped taking baths and I quit going out in boats for a long time after seeing that one. I cant think of another horror film that had that effect on me. So technically, Spielberg. Ridley Scotts Alien comes in a very close 2nd. 8) What’s next for you as a filmmaker? I am in pre-production of Mama Lous Bridge. Its going to be a horror/suspense film using some local Arkansas lore as a backdrop. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Links for more information on NOW YOU SEE ME and Kelly Griffin Trailer youtu.be/B8opxjTF_P4 IMDb NOW YOU SEE ME: imdb/title/tt3179140/combined Kelly Griffin: imdb/name/nm3236014/ Facebook NOW YOU SEE ME: https://facebook/nowyouseeme48 MAMA LOUS BRIDGE: https://facebook/pages/Mama-Lous-Bridge/243556259132320 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Links for 2014 Little Rock Horror Picture Show (March 20-23) Passes now on sale at: bit.ly/1mK6yk5 Venue - Ron Robinson Theater https://facebook/ronrobinsontheater Facebook LRHPS: https://facebook/LittleRockHorrorPictureShow Little Rock Film Festival: https://facebook/LittleRockFilmFestival #LRHPS2014 YouTube Trailers Playlist youtube/playlist?list=PLLqZ7tYVlW7SynhtbdYJrqV7w0ozn0DuR Follow the Films Screening at #LRHPS2014 https://facebook/lists/10152022402594611
