Spotlight stem DoDEA Educational Partnership Awards $46.6 Million in Grants to Military-Connected LEAs The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Educational Partnership has awarded nearly $47 million in grants to 44 military-connected public school districts to enhance academic and transition support programs. This includes a $3 million award to the National Math and Science Initiative to expand advanced placement courses through the Initiative for Military Families. The Fiscal Year 2014 grants aim to strengthen family, school, and community engagement and increase student achievement for military dependent students. DoDEA funds research-based programs that: Infuse Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematic (STEM) principles throughout the curriculum; Establish or expand foreign language learning; and/or programs that include ongoing, systemic strategies for parent and family engagement. In addition, 43% of the newly awarded grants include activities to meet the needs of military-connected students in special education.
