Surprisingly, research has shown that the risk of a heart attack increases over that of normal times by up to 10 percent in the days following the start of daylight saving time. If you don’t make it into bed earlier, that lost hour of sleep is linked to an uptick in headaches. These stats aren’t meant to frighten, but rather to help you see the impact that loss of sleep has on your health. Here’s one way to make the time change easier on your body: Adjust your sleep schedule gradually, starting a few days before the onset of daylight saving time, and use that extra hour of daylight for something healthy and stress-relieving, like an after-dinner walk.
