Spring is sprung and so has the paddle season. Courtesy of veteran leader David Miller we had our first paddle this last Saturday. The water may have been cold but the company was warm and welcoming. We paddled the Seven Mile River from where it crosses route 31 in Spencer by the Pine Grove Cemetery to Quaboag Pond in East Brookfield. It was tricky, with quickwater around obstacles and I lost count of how many beaver dams paddled over, but it was exciting. I know my heart rate went up whenever the possibility of getting wet presented itself. But the sun came out for a while inspiring the Red Wing Blackbirds to a riot of song and we were even treated to a bald eagle soaring overhead. Hark paddlers and paddle leaders, the spring flow is beckoning, and so is website which lists a number of river paddles with more to come.
