Squats Last session of this week is over and done with. I was dreading this session. I havent done a proper squat session in about 6 months! I knew it was going to be painful and be very hard, so I sat in the office for about 1.5h before finally getting my ass into the gym. The session consisted of 10 sets of 6 reps of Back Squats and Leg Curls. After 4 sets, my legs were shaking, but I managed to do 60kg on all the sets, so I am very pleased with myself. I weigh around 60kg and squatting my own body weight is not bad. My goal is to get to a 100kg 1RM. I don’t have a specific time limit for this, but Im aiming at doing it before my competition in February. Squatting is another amazing fat loss tool. When training for fat loss you want to do a lot of compound movements like squats, deadlifts and overhead pressing. By just squatting you hit your gluteus, hamstrings, quads and core muscles, all at the same time. If you want to get great abs, the above exercises is the way to go. There is not really any point training your abdominals in isolation before you are really lean and have visible abs. One thing that I noticed since I started training for strength is the look of my body shape. When I was training for my last comp, I was actually scared I was losing muscles mass! My muscles got smaller, but this is just because they got very dense. I guess you could say I looked more toned. This is what happens when you train to get really strong, as opposed to bodybuilding where the aim is to get bigger muscles. So I am doing what most women are very scared of and achieving what most women want. Since my competition I have had a few messages from my clients and people following me on Twitter and Facebook, saying that I am an inspiration. I never thought that I could inspire anyone! Im very proud of myself that by doing what I love, I have changed the view on strength training for a few women. I hope there will be more women out there who will prove that by being a bad ass in the gym, you will not look like the Hulk;) Squat and be Happy:)
