Srinagar, Aug 23: Hurriyat Conference (G) has strongly condemned the continued house arrest of its chairman Syed Ali Geelani, saying it was 25th Friday today in a row that he was not permitted to offer congregational prayers. “Preventing a leader from attending his religious, social and political obligations is unconstitutional and morally wrong,” said Hurriyat spokesman Ayaz Akbar in a statement today. “Geelani has been confined to his home since 2010. However, the restrictions in 2013 are tougher and unprecedented. “Even judiciary failed to deliverjustice, undue delay in judicial processes is extremely painful. Hurriyat filed a petition againstthis unlawful detention and though the court reserved its judgment for announcement, it is still awaited. Three months have passed and legal institutions failed to answer under what law Geelani is being confined to four walls and denied fundamental rights.Human rights groups also failedto play any effective role in thisregard,” said the spokesman. “Omar Abdullah through his dictatorial rule never permittedGeelani to interact with people and right from first day of his tenure adopted hostile attitudetowards the aged leader. Omar has surpassed all records of his father and grandfather,” said Ayaz Akbar, adding, “Omar is following the footsteps of late Bakshi Ghulam Muhammad. Bakshi while justifying detention of Plebiscite Front leadership had called them a threat to peace.”
