Srinagar, Aug 5: Shab-e-Qadr, also known as Laylat-ul-Qadr was observed all over Kashmir on Monday night with great religious zeal and sanctity. People offered night long prayers and recited holy Qur’an in Masjids and shrines all across Kashmir. Shab-e-Qadr, traditionally celebrated each year on the 27th night of Ramadan, is the anniversary of two important dates in Islam during Ramadhan. The first verses of the Holy Quran were revealed to Prophet Muhammad (SAW) during this night and it is also the anniversary of the night in which Holy Quran was revealed in its entirety. Thousands of people offered prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid in Old City and Dargah Hazratbal. Similar congregations were held in different mosques across Kashmir. The night remained abuzz with Islamic ceremonies and prayers. Biggest congregations of nightlong prayers were also held at the shrines of Saeed Yaqoob Sahab (RA) Sonawar, Sayeed Mansoor Sahab (RA), Makhdoom Sahab (RA), Shrine of Gous-ul-Azam Dastgeer (RA) at Khanyar, Khwaja Naqashband Sahab (RA) and other shrines in the Valley. The devotees prayed for peace in the state and well being of people. The night is considered the most blessed of all the nights of the year. Guv, CM, Muftis greet people State Governor N N Vohra has felicitated the people on Shab-e-Qadr. In a message, the Governor hoped that this auspicious night would strengthen the bonds of communal harmony and brotherhood and be a harbinger of amity, peace, progress and prosperity in the State. The Governor prayed for the well-being of the people of the state. Chief minister Omar Abdullah Monday highlighted significance of Shab-e-Qadr, saying that the unique and holy night in which Almighty Allah chose to reveal the holy Qu’ran to Prophet Muhammad (SAW) for the guidance of the mankind, provides us opportunity to seek His forgiveness and blessings. Omar wished prosperity and peace to the state. He prayed for betterment of the people and expressed the hope that the holy night would bring Allah’s munificence to all. The Pradesh Congress Committee president Prof Saifuddin Soz, while greeting the people particularly Muslim Ummah on the auspicious occasion of Shab-e-Qadr, prayed peace in the country and hoped that this occasion will be a harbinger of prosperity, progress and success for the people of Jammu & Kashmir. PDP Patron Mufti Muhammad Sayeed and the party president Mehbooba Mufti have also greeted people on Shab-e-Qadr and have prayed for peace and prosperity of the state. Meanwhile, the cabinet ministers, while greeting the people, hoped that this auspicious occasion would further strengthen the bonds of communal harmony and brotherhood and usher the state into a period of sustained peace, progress and prosperity. They also prayed for the well-being of the people of the State. Greeting the people, the speaker of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Mubarak Gul expressed hope that the Shab would usher an era of peace and prosperity in the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
