Srinagar, Jan 20: Agriculture department Kashmir today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Seeds Corporation, Ministry of Agriculture, government of India for purchase of 3000 quintals foundation/certified seeds of Potato variety Kufri Jyoti. The corporation will produce this variety of seeds at various places in the country and make them available to the Agriculture department Kashmir for further multiplication in the departmental Potato Seed Multiplication Farms during the Kharief 2015. The memorandum was signed by Director Agriculture Kashmir Peerzada Mushtaq Ahmad Shah on behalf of Agriculture Department Kashmir and Regional Manager, National Seeds Corporation (NSC) Chandigarh, Dr. Pankaj Teeyagi. As per the MoU the Corporation will supply the seed on the prevailing market rates to Agriculture Department Kashmir by March 2015, so that the seed is sown in the Higher Altitude Departmental Farms on time, an official statement said. It may be mentioned that Agriculture Department has six high altitude farms at Kalnag (Anantnag), Bosyan, Yarikhah (Tangmarg), Gulmarg, Sedaw (Shopian) and Ismarg (Gurez) during current year. The Department achieved a record production of 5000 quintals of Potato Seed from the departmental farms, which is being supplied to the farmers for Kharief 2015.
