Srinagar, July 16: Srinagar’s police chief, Amit Kumar, Wednesday faced wrath of anArmy Major while handling protesters nearthe accident spot at Hokarsar on Srinagar-Baramulla highway.Police sources disclosed to Greater Kashmir that Kumar, the Senior Superintendent of Police (Srinagar), was trying to handle the post-accident law andorder situation near the mishap site when Major of Army’s 22 Rashtriya Rifles—later identified by police as Major Gagan Deep Malhotra—misbehaved with him near Zainakote. “After seeing the Army Major’s behavior, local boys chased him and he ran away,” the sources disclosed, asserting that Kumar has taken a note of the Army officer’s “misbehavior and intimidation” and informed his higher-ups about the “unwarranted incident.”Police later registered a case under Section 353 of RPC (assault or use of criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duties) against the Army Major at Parimpora Police Station.
