Srinagar,Oct 3: With no end to confrontation between the state government and its employees, the Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) Thursday asked the government to implement the agreement inked with it in 2011 to break the ongoing stalemate. With the JCC’s two-day lockout programme beginning Friday, the stage is set for a major showdown between the two parties. “Government should fulfill all clauses of the agreement signed with us forthwith. Otherwise we will have no option than to launch a protracted struggle,” Wani, who is under detention, was quoted by a JCC leader as saying. Wani, who is spearheading the agitation, accused the government of being anti-people and anti-employees. “The government is blowing the trumpet of negotiations and resolution of our issues only to sabotage the employees’ movement,” he said. Wani said the government has adopted “autocratic measures” to suppress the ongoing employees’ agitation. The jailed leader appealed all the employees of the State to observe complete shutdown/strike on October 4 and 5 against the “tyrannical approach of state government and for the restoration of our snatched rights.” “On October 5, thousands of employees will march from SK Park Srinagar towards the State legislature to register their protest against the dictatorial and tyrannical orders and approach of the government,” he said. Meanwhile JCC convener Rouf Ahmad Bhat said: “If the government is sincere in negotiations with us, it should fulfill one of the three main demands: enhancement of retirement age, redressal of pay anomaly and regularization of contractual and daily-wagers,” Rouf said, addressing a news conference here. Rouf accused the government of “misleading public by spreading lies about the employees’ agitation.” Meanwhile All J&K College Non-Teaching Employees Association has extended full support to the program of JCC. Senior Trade Union leader Muhammad Suliman Bhat said the government has declared “unannounced war” against the employees. Meanwhile, Jammu Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz came out to support enhancement of retirement age of employees from 58 to 60 years. Talking to local news agency KNS, Soz said he was always with the employees who demand enhancement of retirement age. Meanwhile senior PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Beigh said the demands of the state employees are genuine and the government has compelled them to strike and protest. “The demand of employees about the enhancement of retirement age from 58 to 60 is genuine,” said Beigh. “There are IAS and IPS officers working in this State and their retirement age is 60. The supreme court judges retire at the age of 65 and the high court judges at 62,” said Beigh.
