Srinagar, Oct 31: Appealing the conscious Kashmiris to come forward and offer donations towards rebuilding shelters for the thousands of homeless people under the “Akh Akis” housing scheme initiative, APHC Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today announced that Dar-ul-Khair Mirwaiz Manzil would soon start the comprehensive housing programme to build 100 houses in different parts of Kashmir for the flood victims. Addressing a Friday gathering at historic Jamia Masjid, Mirwaiz stated that during his different visits to flood hit areas of Srinagar, Badgam, Pulwama, Kulgam, Ganderbal ,Islamabad and adjoining areas of Sonawari, he felt that people were in dire need of relief and shelter from the Kashmiri nation. He stated that the Kashmiri nation should express their solidarity with the victims and offer their helping hand to their brethren who are facing the crisis due to destructive floods which engulfed their life and property. For rebuilding the houses of flood victims, Mirwaiz stated that he himself visited different places in Kashmir to collect donations. He stated that the response of people to this regard has been gratifying, encouraging and praiseworthy. He stated that Imam Hi of Jamia Masjid would be heading a team who would visit different places in Kashmir, consult Masjid Committees and Auqaf, to identify the genuine victims whose houses would be built on priority basis. APHC Chairman stated that “AKH Akis” housing scheme initiative has been started to help the economically weaker sections who can’t afford to build their houses. He further stated that houses would not be built on political lines and all steps would be taken to ensure transparency so that the help reaches the needy under the housing programme. He stated that during his tour to Pulwama, he found hundreds of people living in make shift tents and shelters in this shivering cold, adding, not a single government official has reached the affected people, let alone the relief and rehabilitation. Mirwaiz stated that government at first announced a pittance of 70,000 rupees for damaged houses, but is now giving only 2800 Rs to the victims. He stated that people should categorically reject the money offered to them since the government was making every effort to lampoon their tragedies APHC Chairman stated that it was the time when government should focus on relief and rehabilitation of flood victims. Ironically, he stated by announcing the so called elections, the victims have been left on the mercy of god. Terming the arrest of pro-freedom leadership and raids on their houses as complete frustration on the part of the government, Mirwaiz while sternly condemning the government action stated that since 1947, drama of elections have been played in Kashmir. He stated that this futile exercise would have no bearing on the disputed status of Kashmir, adding, neither in future it would do so .Mirwaiz said the Hurriyat conference would continue its peaceful and political struggle for the achievement of right of self determination for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Mirwaiz announced that on coming Tuesday, 10 of Muharram, a special gathering would be organized at Alam Sahab ,Narwara to pay tributes to the martyrs of Karbala.
