Srinagar: Rajya Sabha member andNational Conference’s nominated candidate for Pulwama Assembly Segment , Ghulam Nabi Ratanpuri,on Wednesday was injured when his cavalcade came under stone-pelting at Renzipora area of Pulwama district.Sources told GNS that Ratanpuri was on his way to Gulzarpora where he was supposed to meet people as part of poll campaign.“However, when he reached Renzipora, a group of people attacked his vehicle resulting in injuries to the NC leader. He was hit by stones in foot and was immediately rushed to Bone and Joint Hospital Barzulla for treatment,” they said.The glasses of his vehicle were also smashed, witnesses said.Meanwhile, minutes after the incident, police chased the youth who pelted stones on Ratanpuri during which a youth, whose identity could not be ascertained, was detained by cops.However, when contacted, Ratanpuri told GNS that that he was attacked by six persons including three ladies and three gents. “While I was about to reach the destiny to meet people, my vehicle was stopped by six people. I came down from my vehicle. These people were raising slogans and abusing police,” he said.Ratanpuri said a police cop got offended due to abusive language and to stop any scuffle, I stepped in. “I apologized to them and decided to walk by foot but in the meanwhile, these agitated people threw stones at us and I was injured,” the NC leader said.He said his foot has been fracturedin the attack. The NC leader said he was told that the persons who attacked him had lost their family member in the conflict.“But, I also came to know that theyrelatives of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate,” he said, and in a way blamed PDP for the attack.Ratanpuri further alleged that SSP security denied him escort. “Despite my repeated call, he didn’t respond and I fail to understand why,” he said. The NC leader said normally two security vehicles escort him but today there were none.He said he informed Director General of Police and sought his intervention. “DGP said sorry to me and assured that he will probe the matter,” he claimed.A police official told GNS that a case has been registered in this regard under FIR number 120/2014 under sections 341, 323 and 336 RPC. Police have launchedmassive manhunt to nab the ‘culprits’, the official added. (GNS)
