Srinagar, Sep 29: Jammu and Kashmir Jamiat Ahlihadith (JA) on Sunday urged legislators to pass the bill for establishing Transworld Muslim University (TMU), during the upcoming legislature session. It expressed resentment over the “inordinate delay’ by the Legislative Council in passing the bill. Addressing media persons here, General Secretary Dr Abdul Latief Alkandi said: “By not passing the Bill, the Government is denying the people of Kashmir Right to Education which has been guaranteed by the constitution. Denial of establishment of the University has direct bearing on future of Kashmiri students”, he said. “We hope that the government would take the issue seriously and pass the bill during the upcoming Assembly session. It is unfortunate that some communal forces are hell bent upon hurting sentiments of people in the Muslim majority state. We will not act as mute spectators. Any move to scuttle the establishment of the University will have serious repercussions,” Alkandi warned. He said the bill is pending before the joint select committee since October 9, 2010. He said that management is fully convinced that the establishment of University is completely guaranteed under the relevant provisions of the constitutions. “As such adopting the dilly dally tactics tantamount to gross violation of constitutional provisions. We believe that the University shall have same status as an educational institution as of Mata Vashino Devi, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah and Islamic University of Science and Technology.” He said: “We reiterate that the University has nothing to do with the propagation of a particular religion or ideology. The main purpose of establishing it is to help in enhancing Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) in higher education which is below the national norms.” He said that the focus of University is to provide society with competent educated individuals trained in agriculture, arts, medicines, science and technology. He said: “University is contemplating to launch a number of job oriented courses for all the youth of state without any regard to caste, creed, colour or religion.” Expressing solidarity with the people of Shopian, he said: “We believe that the situation is Shopian district is created to make the society economically weaker.” He said that after every incident an inquiry commission is set up to look into the facts “But after a few years the existence of commission disappears without submitting any report.” Appreciating the fast trial and verdict by court in Delhi rape case, he said: “We demand that the justice should be delivered in Tabina Gani rape and murder case and culprits involved in Kunanposhpora mass rape case should be punished.” President JA Prof GM Bhat who was present on the occasion, while replying to a query, said: “We have set up a committee that is in touch with other faction. All efforts are being made to bring dissidents back.”
