Srinuan Saokhamnuan was born stateless--with no nationality in any country. Children like her had two choices: factories or brothels. Srinuan, now 25 years old, forged a different route. She is the first stateless person granted permission to leave Thailand to study in the United States, and was finally granted Thai citizenship in 2012. Statelessness is a massive problem, and in 27 countries, its due largely to gender discrimination.
